The Eparchy of Saint Basil the Great in Bucharest was established on May 29, 2014 by Grand Archbishop Cardinal Lucian Mureșan from cession of territory of the Grand Archdiocese of Făgăraș and Alba Iulia and subordinated to this as a suffragan diocese. First Bishop was Mihai Frăţilă .
