Epeolus alpinus is a bee from the family of Apidae .

features

The bees are 6 to 7 millimeters long. The body of the females is predominantly black, their mandibles , calli, the scutellum and the legs are red. The head and the mesonotum are hairy long protruding. The mesonotum lacks distinctive white hair spots. The first and second tergite have two, the third and fourth four broad, almost rectangular, but poorly delineated hair spots. The antennae are longer than they are wide. The forehead and the label have shiny spaces between the points. The fifth sternite is flat when viewed in profile. The males have a black body with red mandibles, tegulae , tibiae and tarsi . The head and the mesonotum are hairy, as in the female, but the latter lacks the hair spots. The first tergite is almost completely covered with white felt hair. The seventh tergite is black. The fourth and fifth sternite are light yellow. As with the female, the forehead and the shield have shiny spaces between the points.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is widespread in Spain, the Alps and on the coastal areas of the North and Baltic Seas. The animals fly from late June to early August. They parasitize Colletes impunctatus and Colletes floralis
