Epiphyllum hookeri is a species of plant in the genus Epiphyllum from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The epithet of the species honors the botanist William Jackson Hooker .

description

Epiphyllum hookeri has a bushy growth with stiff, arched to drooping shoots . The shoots are strongly triangular at the base, flattened above, up to 75 centimeters (and more) long and 9 to 10 centimeters wide. The areoles are up to 5 centimeters apart.

The salver-shaped white flowers are 17 to 23 centimeters long and reach a diameter of 3 to 3.5 centimeters. Your flower tube is straight or strongly curved. The ellipsoidal to egg-shaped, more or less purple-red, smooth fruits are 4 to 7 centimeters long with a diameter of up to 3.5 centimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Epiphyllum hookeri is common in southern Mexico , Guatemala , Belize , Honduras , Venezuela , Trinidad and Tobago and Guiana at altitudes of up to 2300 meters. The first description was published in 1829 by Adrian Hardy Haworth .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
