The Erdgas Südwest GmbH is a regional power company based in Ettlingen.
The shareholders are EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg with 79% and the Zweckverband Oberschwäbische Elektrizitätswerke with 21% of the capital.
history
The company was founded on January 1, 2004 from the merger of the two natural gas companies EVS-Gasversorgung Süd GmbH and Badenwerk Gas GmbH. In 2007 Erdgas Südwest GmbH became the wholly owned subsidiary Erdgas Südwest Netz GmbH, which was renamed Netze-Gesellschaft Südwest mbH in 2014. In 2017 Erdgas Südwest took over the biomethane marketer Bmp greengas .
Coverage area and network
The network area includes around 100 communities with 200 districts in North Baden, Upper Swabia, on the Swabian Alb and on western Lake Constance. Thus Erdgas Südwest GmbH supplies an area with an area of 2,600 square kilometers. Around 100 employees ensure the network operation and the supply of 51,000 private customers, more than 600 business customers and five redistributors with around 3,400 million kilowatt hours of gas. The natural gas is transported to the customer via the 3,645 km gas distribution network and 190 local control stations.

In addition to a secure and reliable energy supply, the requirement to secure the future has the highest priority in the company. Modern technology and innovative ideas are crucial to guarantee an environmentally friendly and sustainable energy supply. As a regional energy service provider, Erdgas Südwest relies on bio natural gas from renewable raw materials and efficient technologies such as combined heat and power (CHP) and thus meets the requirements of sustainable energy use. With projects such as the self-sufficient bioenergy village, the aim is to achieve a complete supply of electricity and heat from domestic renewable energy.
For the region
The expansion of municipal supply networks, especially in rural areas, is a prerequisite for an intact infrastructure. As a regional provider, Erdgas Südwest takes on social responsibility. Commitment to environmental education is evident in the promotion of local organizations, clubs and events in the fields of sport, culture, art, education and social life.
As a basketball sponsor, the company supports the Steeples Ehingen association as well as the Ötigheim folk theater and the Karlsruhe State Art Gallery .
Sustainability and environmental statement
In Burgrieden , Erdgas Südwest operates one of the most modern biogas processing and feed-in plants in Germany with 23 farmers from Bioenergie Laupheim. The best example of the regenerative claim of Erdgas Südwest is the upgrading of biogas to bio natural gas in the biogas plant in Burgrieden. The bio natural gas produced in this way feeds Southwest gas into its supply network, from which it can be used by customers just like natural gas. A responsible approach to the environment also includes the ecological design of operational processes and working methods. The introduction of an environmental management system fulfills two international requirements: Erdgas Südwest is certified according to both DIN EN ISO 1: 2004 and EMAS .
Products and services
In addition to classic gas and biogas products, the range of services also includes energy saving advice, funding programs, bio natural gas engagement, the operation of natural gas filling stations and the promotion of the combination of natural gas and renewable energies. The gas products are tailored to the different needs of private customers, business customers and municipalities.
