description

Baunach Bridge Frickendorf

The river crossing was built in its preserved form in 1757 as part of an important historical north-south connection in the Baunachtal . The structure was built from the Rhätsandstein , which is often found in this area , and shows the typical construction features of smaller stone bridges from the 18th century.

Three arches are supported by sturdy yoke pillars with crowning sandstone sculptures. Against the approach side, the pillars are formed into sharp spurs. The driveway, which is bordered by a parapet, rises gently towards the middle and falls in the same way towards the south bank. The bridge has a maximum passage width of 3.7 meters.

The four bridge figures are about three meters high and stand on shell-work plinths. The figures of Maria Immaculata ( DCM 1757 ) and St. Johannes Nepomuk ( MDCCLVII ) date from the construction period. The statues of St. Michael ( S. Michaell 1774 ) and Georg were donated in 1774. On the pedestal of St. Georg is called the founder of the sculpture. ( HANNS GEORG WEISS AS FOUNDER 1774 ).

The monument has served its original purpose to this day. Vehicles with a maximum weight of 7.5 tons may enter it. The bridge was repaired in 1989 and 2017.
