Eremocoris podagricus is a bug fromthe Rhyparochromidae family .
features
The bugs are 5.7 to 7.0 millimeters long. Like all species of the genus Eremocoris, they have reddish-brown forewings that bear a pair of semicircular white spots on the membrane adjacent to the Cuneus. The front legs ( femora ) of Eremocoris podagricus are clearly thickened. These carry two large and several small thorns. The hair on the posterior rails ( tibia ) is roughly the same length as the width of the rails.
distribution and habitat
The Mediterranean species occurs in southern Europe and North Africa and reaches Asia Minor and the Caucasus via Southeastern Europe . In the north they can be found in the south of Great Britain and in Germany up to the edge of the low mountain range. It is not often here. In Austria, it is proven from all federal states and is frequent. The species colonizes the litter of open or partially shaded, temperature-favored, humid and dry habitats with calcareous soil. They can be found in litter, under stones or in moss on the edge of the forest, in hedges or under juniper bushes .
Way of life
The animals rarely climb up plants. The bugs appear from the beginning of April. The development is the same as in Eremocoris plebejus .
