Eremocoris plebejus is a bug fromthe Rhyparochromidae family .

features

The bugs become 5.0 to 7.1 millimeters long. Like all species of the genus Eremocoris, they have reddish-brown forewings that bear a pair of semicircular white spots on the membrane adjacent to the Cuneus. Eremocoris plebejus has two large and several small thorns on the thighs ( femora ) of the front legs and has long, upright hair on the rails ( tibia ) that are up to twice as long as the rails are wide. Eremocoris podagricus has shorter hairs on the rails that are about the same length as the width of the rails. All adults are macropter, so they have fully developed wings and are able to fly.

distribution and habitat

The species is distributed in Europe from the Arctic Circle to the northern Mediterranean. In the east the distribution area extends to Siberia, China and Japan, as well as to the Caucasus . The species is widespread and common in Central Europe. You can find them in the Alps up to 1000 meters above sea level. The bug is a typical inhabitant of dry, light pine forests with sandy or chalky soil. There you can find it between heather ( Calluna vulgaris ) and blueberries ( Vaccinium ) in raw humus and moss, but also in the leaf litter from other conifers, such as spruce ( Picea ) or juniper ( Juniperus ).

Way of life

The animals rarely climb the plants. Among other things, they suckle on pine seeds, so they are often found on cones lying on the ground. The adults hibernate and mate from May. The nymphs molt into adults from August onwards. In favorable years, an incomplete second generation can be formed, whose nymphs then overwinter in the fourth or fifth stage.
