Erhard Franz Kaleta

Erhard Franz Kaleta (born April 18, 1939 in Haldensleben ) is a German veterinarian and university lecturer.

Life

Kaleta studied veterinary medicine in Hanover , Belgrade and Vienna until 1963 . In 1966 he was awarded a doctorate in Hanover with a paper entitledExamination of the suitability of Neocarmine B, MS and W for histological examination of sausages ”. med. vet. doctorate and was from 1975 to 1970 assistant at the clinic for poultry at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover . In 1974 he completed his habilitation with the thesis "Multiplication, interference and interferon induction of avian herpes virus types: Contribution to vaccination against Marek's disease " . In 1978 he became professor for laboratory diagnostics of poultry diseases at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover and in 1982 switched to the professorship for poultry diseases and hygiene in poultry farming at the veterinary medicine department of the Justus Liebig University in Giessen , which he held until his retirement.

Kaleta is the author of over 200 specialist publications and, together with Maria-Elisabeth Krautwald-Junghanns, editor of the Compendium of Ornate Bird Diseases . He has also been a member or advisor to numerous national and international institutions for the control of viral diseases in poultry. In 2010 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Leipzig .
