Erhard Peschke

Erhard Peschke (born July 21, 1907 in Berlin , † January 19, 1996 in Halle ) was a German Protestant theologian and professor of church history .

Life

After attending grammar school in Berlin , he began to study theology in his home town, and later also Slavic studies at the suggestion of his doctoral supervisor Erich Seeberg . Doctorate in 1933 in Berlin and habilitation in Breslau in 1935. The academic career as a lecturer and professor for church history was interrupted by the conscription to the Wehrmacht from 1939 to 1945. After a pastor's office in Apollensdorf near Wittenberg, he held the chair for church and dogma history at the University of Rostock from 1951 to 1959 and worked at the University of Halle from 1959 until his retirement in 1972.

The focus of research was on the Bohemian Brothers , conveyed through Seeberg, and the Halle Pietism with works on August Hermann Francke and source editions on Francke.

In 1959 he received an honorary doctorate from the Theological Faculty of Martin Luther University for his research on the Bohemian Brothers. When the Historical Commission for the Study of Pietism was founded, Peschke was appointed chairman of the East Section. In 1994, Peschke received an August Hermann Francke Prize for his services to Francke research.
