Toni Porkka (born February 4, 1970 in Rauma ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player who was under contract with the Frankfurt Lions and the Kölner Haien in the German Ice Hockey League .

Career

Toni Porkka learned to play ice hockey at the Rauman Lukko club in his native Rauma . In the 1988/89 season he was used for the first time in the club's SM-liiga team. During the 1990 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the ninth round in a total of 172nd place by the Philadelphia Flyers and moved to North America a year later. The excellent skater and checker played for the Hershey Bears , the Flyers' then AHL farm team, for three years without playing in the NHL . Due to the low perspective, the right-wing shooter returned to his parent club in 1994.

In 1995/96 he won the bronze medal with the team in the SM-liiga before he signed a contract with the Frankfurt Lions in the German Ice Hockey League. He played on the Main for five years, but Porkka celebrated his greatest success in Germany in the 2001/02 season when he celebrated the German championship with the Kölner Haien . From 2002 to 2006 he played for Lukko for the third time. Shortly after the start of the 2005/06 season, a knee injury forced Porkka, who was nicknamed “Tonto” in his home country, to retire early.
