Eric B. & Rakim are an East Coast hip hop duo that enjoyed success in the late 1980s. It is best known for its pieces in which it used radio elements from James Brown as samples , a stylistic device that had a formative influence on hip-hop music .
Career
The careers of Eric Barrier and William Griffin ( Rakim ) began in 1986 with the single Eric B. Is President , which was released on the label Zakia records in Harlem . In 1987 and 1988, the albums Paid in Full and Follow the Leader followed , which were successful and pioneered a new style in hip-hop. Paid in Full was named MTV's Best Hip-Hop Album of All Time, and Rolling Stone music magazine ranks it # 227 on its list of the 500 best albums of all time . The song Microphone Fiend of the plate Follow the Leader was established in 2000 by Rage Against the Machine for their album Renegades gecovert . In 1990 the record Let the Rhythm Hit 'Em was released and finally in 1992, the last album, Don't Sweat the Technique . Then the duo split up.
After the split, Eric B. founded his record label 95th Street Records . Rakim released two solo albums, but they were not particularly successful, and in 2001 signed a contract with Aftermath Entertainment , the label of Dr. Dre . However, Rakim left this label in 2003 due to artistic differences.
In 2004, her song I Know You Got Soul was part of the computer game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas .
In October 2016, Rakim announced that, after 23 years, he would perform again with Eric B. and that a tour was planned for 2017.
