Eric Marcus

Eric Marcus (born November 12, 1958 in New York ) is an American non-fiction author . His work is mainly concerned with LGBT issues. Other topics he writes about are suicide and - inspired by his grandmother - pessimism.

Life

He grew up in Kew Gardens , a neighborhood in Queens , and has an older sister and a younger brother. graduated in 1980 from Vassar College , where his main focus was urban studies ("Urban Studies"). In 1984 he graduated with a Masters from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and in October 2003 a Masters in real estate development from Columbia Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation . In between he was production manager for the programs "CBS Morning News" and later "Good Morning America" ​​on ABC . He lives in Manhattan with his long-time partner .

The book Breaking the Surface , a co-written autobiography of gay Olympic athlete Greg Louganis was for 5 weeks in the list of New York Times bestseller and made it to number one. With the book Making History: The Struggle for Gay and Lesbian Equal Rights 1945-1990 , which arose from interviews with contemporary witnesses, Marcus won the Israel Fishman Non-Fiction Award of the American Library Association in 1993 . It was adapted for the stage by Matthew Crehan Higgins and premiered in January 2005 in Buffalo at the Buffalo United Artists / Main Street Cabaret .
