Eric Orr

Eric Orr ( December 8, 1939 in Covington - November 13, 1998 in Venice Beach ) was an American painter and installation artist .

life and work

Eric Orr was born in Kentucky in 1939 and lived in Venice Beach until 1998. Until 1965 he studied at five universities without a formal degree ( University of Cincinnati , New School of Social Research , University of California, Berkeley , National Autonomous University of Mexico , Ecole de Paraphysiques in Paris). Orr began a world tour in 1969, visiting sacred sites in Burma, Japan, Egypt, and India. Eric Orr had been married since 1982 and had two children. The artist and filmmaker Elizabeth Orr is his daughter.

Orr creates both his installations and his paintings from stone, metal, water, fire, bones, gold leaf, blood and lead, among other things. Orr has also implemented water installations. “Sound Tunnel” (1969) was exhibited at documenta 7 in Kassel in 1982 .
