Eric Vaarzon Morel

Eric Vaarzon Morel (* 1961 ) is a Dutch flamenco guitarist.

Life

Vaarzon Morel met the flamenco guitarist Paco Peña at the 7th Rencontre de la guitare in France at the age of sixteen , and he became his student. From 1980 he studied in Spain for two years, after which he toured Europe with the Swiss group Flamencos en route . For six years he was a member of the Cuadro Flamenco group .

He also performed his own compositions with his group Chanela . In 1992 he recorded his first album Flamenco de Hoy . In 1999 he composed and played the music for the play De Ongelukkige by Abdelkader Benali . With the Turkish Kanun player Tahir Aydogdu he performed in the Turkish soefi and flamenco program in the Netherlands and Istanbul .

Between 1999 and 2002 Morel was a special guest of the group Flairck , 2003-04 he toured with the jazz musician Eric Vloeimans , in 2005 he performed with the ZAPP! String quartet on. For several years he also worked with the Five Great Guitars (including Jan Kuiper , Harry Sacksioni and Jan Akkerman ).

Morel teaches flamenco guitar at the Amsterdam Conservatory . As a flamenco guitarist, he appeared in the films Leef! and Het Schnitzelparadijs ( The Schnitzel Paradise ).

In 2009 he composed the flamenco opera El Greco , about the life of the famous painter El Greco .
