Erich Amplatz

Erich Amplatz (born February 6, 1960 in Judenburg ) is a former Austrian table tennis player . He was one of the best players in Austria in the 1970s and 1980s.

Career

Erich Amplatz began his career at the Atus Judenburg association . He later switched to the clubs from Langenlois , TTC Raiffeisen Langenlois and UTTC Römerquelle Langenlois. After an interlude at Union Wolkersdorf , he returned to UTTC Langenlois in 1996.

He achieved his first successes in 1976 when he became Austrian student champion in doubles (with Franz Pröglhöf). In 1977 he won the Austrian youth championship in singles. In the same year he reached the final in doubles with Alexander Pokorny at the European Youth Championships.

Amplatz was Austrian champion in singles four times (1978, 1980, 1981, 1982), several times he won the title in doubles and mixed. In 1976 he was nominated for the Austrian national team, in the European league match against Italy he defeated Stefano Bosi .

Between 1977 and 1985 he took part in five world championships and several times in European championships , but never came close to medal ranks. In 1992 he qualified with Ding Yi for participation in the double competition at the Olympic Games , where they lost two matches in the preliminary round and were eliminated.

In 1999 Erich Amplatz ended his career.
