Table tennis player

In the 1970s Stefano Bosi was one of the best table tennis players in Italy. In 1971, 1973 and 1976 he led the national rankings. At the national championships of Italy he won the title seven times in singles (1971-1975, 1977, 1979), four times in doubles and three times in mixed.

At the Mediterranean Championships in 1971 he was second in doubles with Stefano Malesci, in 1975 he reached the semi-finals in singles and won gold with the team. He represented Italy at world championships four times , namely in 1973 , 1975 , 1977 and 1979 , but never came close to medal ranks.

In total, he played 250 games for the Italian national team.

official

After the end of his active career, Stefano Bosi took on official duties. From 1990 to 2004 he was President of the Italian Table Tennis Association.

In 1993 he became Vice President of the European Table Tennis Association ETTU . When the Swede Nils Bergström gave up the office of ETTU President in May 1997 because he was appointed Vice President of the world association ITTF , Stefano Bosi temporarily took over its duties. A year later, at the ETTU Congress during the 1998 European Championships in Manchester, he was officially elected President. During his tenure, he changed the mode of the European championships, these were now played annually, the mixed competition was outsourced to an independent event. In addition, he specified the requirements for the organizers of the European ranking tournament Europe TOP-12 , which meant that there was no longer an organizer for 2014. The increased number of appointments was criticized with the consequent increased time burdens on the active participants. He was also accused of "mismanagement", which led to financial problems in the ETTU.

On May 15, 2013, he applied in Paris for the office of ITTF President with the aim of replacing the incumbent Adham Sharara . This candidacy failed, he was only supported by about 25 percent of the voters. As a result, criticism also intensified within the ETTU, which is why Bosi resigned as ETTU President on August 9, 2013. His successor was the Dutchman Ronald Kramer. In 2014 Stefano Bosi turned down the ETTU honorary membership that had been proposed to him.
