Erich Binder (musician)

Erich Binder (born December 1947 in Vienna ) is an Austrian violinist , pianist and conductor .

Life

Erich Binder was a member of the Vienna Boys' Choir from 1954 to 1956 . He then studied violin, piano, organ, singing, composition and orchestral conducting with Hans Swarowsky at the Vienna University of Music . During his studies he worked as a répétiteur in the singing classes of Elisabeth Radó and Christl Mardayn at the same university. After completing his studies, Binder held positions as concertmaster in the Bregenz Orchestra, in the orchestra of the Vienna Volksoper, as first concertmaster at the Bayreuth Festival , the Vienna Philharmonic and with the NDR Symphony Orchestra in Hamburg. In the second half of the 1970s he began to work increasingly as a conductor. His repertoire now includes more than 60 operas and around 300 symphonic works.

He was awarded the Dr. Karl Böhm Prize for young Austrian conductors in Salzburg, which has only been awarded four times. He also received the special award from the Alban Berg Foundation and a conducting contract with the Vienna State Opera. He conducted a. a. the Vienna Philharmonic in subscription concerts, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and opera performances at the Vienna State Opera (including the premiere of Faust in a production by Ken Russell , 1985) at the Bavarian State Opera and at La Scala in Milan and concerts in Belgium, Germany, France and Italy , Spain, England, Australia and Japan.
