Erich Drechsler (trainer)

Erich Drechsler (* 1934 in Artern in the Thuringian Kyffhäuserkreis ; † October 1, 2015 in Blankenhain ) was a German athletics trainer and sports teacher .

Life

Erich Drechsler trained as a certified sports teacher at the German University for Physical Culture in Leipzig and in 1957 became a high jump trainer at SC Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt . From 1973 he worked as a trainer for high jump and pole vault at SC Motor Jena . His numerous students there included, for example, Rolf Beilschmidt , Karen Scholz and Britta Vörös-Billac . After the fall of the Berlin Wall he was national coach for long jump at the German Athletics Association from 1990 to 1996 . When National Paralympic Committee Germany he was responsible in the period 1997-2007 volunteer the long jumper Catherine Bader-Bille , which at the Paralympics in Sydney won the gold medal in the 2000th At the DBS Drechsler also looked after the gold medalist in the long jump at the Paralympics 2004 in Athens - Woitek Czyz .

He also trained his daughter-in-law Heike Drechsler , whom he led to several Olympic and European championship titles in the long jump.

Before his death, Erich Drechsler had been suffering from diabetes for a long time. He died of circulatory failure in a hospital in Blankenhain in 2015.
