Erich Ebeling (ancient orientalist)
Erich Robert Friedrich Ebeling (born November 21, 1886 in Berlin , † October 28, 1955 in West Berlin ) was a German Assyriologist .
life and work
In 1909 Ebeling received his doctorate in Berlin on the verb of the El Amarna letters . From 1920 he was a private lecturer, from 1924 associate professor for oriental philology at the University of Berlin . Ebeling was one of the editors of the text collection of ancient Near Eastern texts on the Old Testament and the founder of the large-scale work Reallexikon der Assyriologie und Vorderasiatischen Aräologie, which is still in the making today . Since 1953 he was a corresponding member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .
