Erich Eder de Lastra (born December 19, 1933 in Linz ) is an Austrian composer .

Eder de Lastra studied at the Vienna Conservatory composition (with Othmar Steinbauer ), conducting, piano and vocals (when Ferdinand Grossmann ) and at the Vienna University of Music and German for teaching in secondary schools. In order to avoid confusion with the older composer Helmut Eder (not related to him) , he took the name of his first wife (née de la Lastra) as his stage name .

In addition to four symphonies (1976, 1977, 1980, 1990), Eder de Lastra's work is mainly dedicated to chamber music and the piano, which Eder has mastered with virtuosity. The close friendship with the Austro-American clarinet virtuoso Roger Salander was the cause of numerous clarinet works dedicated to him.

Based on the strict twelve-tone technique, Eder's compositional technique became freer and almost tonal in later years. One of his goals was to remove the separation of "E-" and "U-" music and to entertain it with so-called "serious" music at a high level.

Erich Eder de Lastra has been living in seclusion in his house in Mondsee and in Vienna since his retirement .
