Erich Giebner (1954)

Erich Giebner (born July 31, 1910 in Großenstein ; † February 8, 1960 ) was a German miner . In the 1950s he was an award-winning personality and a member of the Volkskammer in the GDR . Along with Franz Franik , Gustav Huebner and Sepp Wenig, Giebner was one of a number of miners whose work was particularly emphasized in the context of the activist movement .

Life

Giebner's brigade

Giebner was born in Grossenstein, Thuringia, in 1910, the son of a farm laborer, and between 1925 and 1929 learned to be a car mechanic after primary school, which he then practiced until he was drafted for military service. In 1928 Giebner became a member of the German Metalworkers' Association, in 1930 he joined the Communist Party of Germany (KPD).

After being a prisoner of war, Giebner returned to his home town of Großenstein, where he was again active in his profession. In 1946 he was accepted as a former member of the KPD in the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). From 1947 to 1949 Giebner was a member of the Großensteiner Municipal Council.

In 1949 Giebner took up a job as a conveyor man at Wismut AG , then worked as a tiller and became a brigadier in 1950. Between 1951 and 1955 Giebner was honored five times in a row as an activist of the five-year plan .

In March 1954 the Giebner's brigade reached a new record in single-track high-speed tunneling of 350.1 m as part of a commitment in honor of the IVth party congress of the SED. This performance was achieved in a shaft in the Freital coal field. In 1954 he was honored as a hero of work . Giebner ran in 1954 on the list of the SED for the People's Chamber. In the second and third electoral periods Giebner belonged to the People's Chamber until his death. In 1959 he was honored as an Honored Miner of the GDR .

Giebner died in February 1960 at the age of 49.
