Erich Glauer (* 1903 in Liegnitz , Silesia ; † 1995 in Stuttgart ) was a German sculptor . In addition to numerous figurative works, he also created the slide on Stuttgart's Killesberg .

Life

Erich Glauer attended the Kölner Werkschulen in Cologne , studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden with Karl Albiker from 1936 to 1938 and then moved to Stuttgart, where Fritz von Graevenitz was his teacher. From 1940 he did military service. After returning from captivity , he settled in Stuttgart in 1946 as a freelance sculptor.

In 1958 Glauer was one of the initiators of the Sindelfingen Secession , which lasted until 1970. Numerous works by Glauer can be found in public spaces in Sindelfingen, including the group of figures Flamingo and Pelican , which he created in 1956. It was initially used to decorate a fountain on the Planie , which had to give way under the market square in 1982 when the underground car park access was built. Glauer's 2.2 meter high work of art was then mounted on a boulder and implemented; it is now near the shore in the Klostersee. According to a brochure on art in public space in Sindelfingen, the bird figures “gain inner liveliness in this ambience, but conversely also contribute to the creation of an atmospheric lake atmosphere.”

Another fountain, which is no longer preserved in the shape that Erich Glauer gave him, is the animal protection fountain on the Krehlplätzle in Stuttgart-Vaihingen . The first version of this fountain was created in 1937 and carried a water-donating boy as a fountain figure. It adorned a tram stop and kiosk and was badly damaged in World War II . A foundation by Ms. Mathilde Rempis-Nast made a renewal possible: Erich Glauer created the stone sculpture Seated Girl with Cat in 1951 , which from then on adorned the fountain. The Stuttgart Brünnele Foundation later initiated a restoration of the fountain, in the course of which the heavily weathered group of Glauers stone figures was replaced by a bronze work by his pupil Daniela Einsdorf on the same topic .

On the Luisenplatz in Radolfzell there is a war memorial whose bronze relief plaque was designed by Glauer. It was cast in Untertürkheim in 1957 .

Flute player

In 1962 Glauer's bronze flute player was installed in the Möhringer Spitalhof .

At the beginning of the 1970s, Glauer's memorial was erected in the cemetery in Obertürkheim to commemorate the victims of the two world wars and the violence .

Glauer also created a figure that was later used as a funerary memorial for Taco Bay , the late leader of the Christian community . Glauer's sculptures can also be found in a number of churches. In 1981 a figure of the Evangelist Luke was donated to the old church in Hedelfingen . The ambo and the holy or baptismal font in the Petersberg Rabanus-Maurus Church are also from Glauer.

In addition to the abstract, but largely figurative representations, Glauer also created other works, around 1961 the children's slide for the Killesberg Park.

Works by Glauer were shown in various exhibitions. A solo exhibition in Sindelfingen was entitled Musical in Space . Glauer was awarded prizes in Paris in 1973 .
