Erich Köckert (born August 29, 1900 in Dessau , † November 22, 1943 in Brandenburg-Görden ) was a German anti-fascist .

Life

Erich Köckert was born on August 29, 1900 as the son of master locksmith and entrepreneur Max Köckert in Dessau. After completing his school days and engineering studies, he began a three-year apprenticeship in his father's company, which he finished as an industrial clerk. In 1936 he became a partner in the company, married and had two children. He and his family initially lived in their parents' house at Johannisstrasse 4. Later he moved into the family villa in what is now Heidestrasse in Dessau.

In the spring of 1939 Köckert made a trip to the USA on which he met the Cologne engineer Moskopp. There was a lively exchange of letters between the two anti-fascists about the situation in Germany.

Köckert was known as an opponent of the Nazi regime. He refused to become a member of the NSDAP , criticized the regime publicly, corresponded with like-minded people, and collected information and leaflets.

Köckert's anti-fascist sentiments did not go undiscovered. On August 20, 1943, he was arrested by the Gestapo , together with two intimate friends, in his company and taken to the Dessau court prison. When he was arrested, a leaflet from the Scholl and Professor Huber siblings was found.

After moving to Berlin, Erich Köckert was charged before the People's Court . After his death sentence on 26 October 1943 for treason and defeatism Köckert was on 22 November 1943 at the Brandenburg prison-Gorden by the guillotine executed. He was also fined RM 75,000 and reimbursed court and execution costs of RM 8,000.

A street in Dessau-Süd is named after him. On August 24, 2009, a stumbling block was laid for him in front of Köckert's last house at Heidestrasse 147 in Dessau .
