Erich Ledwinka

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Erich Ledwinka (born July 16, 1904 in Klosterneuburg , Lower Austria, † February 23, 1992 ) was an Austrian car designer.

Life

Erich Ledwinka, the son of the designer Hans Ledwinka, studied mechanical engineering and completed his practice in the Tatra works in Kopřivnice in Czechoslovakia, where his father also worked in a managerial position.

After the Second World War, it was no longer possible to continue working at Tatra as an Austrian and so Wilhelm Rösche , the technical director in Graz-Thondorf , brought him to Steyr-Daimler-Puch as a designer , where he later became chief engineer. He held this position from 1950 to 1976.

His developments include the air-cooled engine of the Puch 500 as well as the Haflinger or the Pinzgauer . He is considered the father of four-wheel technology at Steyr.

An exhibition under the title "Hans and Erich Ledwinka - from Tatra 11 to Puch G" with the cooperation of the Tatra Museum Kopřivnice, the Technical Museum Prague and the Technical Museum Vienna was planned as an accompanying exhibition to the Lower Austrian State Exhibition 2009 . But this had to be canceled at short notice.
