Life

Meichsner trained as a printer from 1936 to 1940. After the outbreak of World War II, he was first drafted to the Labor Front and then to the Wehrmacht. Coming from a social democratic working class family, Meichsner was a member of the SPD since 1945 and, after the union of the KPD and SPD, a member of the SED. During this time Meichsner worked as a printer in the people's printing house in Zwickau . As its operations director, Meichsner was also responsible for the printing works of the Freie Presse from the mid-1950s and later, from 1985 until he retired from professional life in 1987, also for the Zwickau printing works.

Athletic career

Meichsner began his career in Planitz, West Saxony, at Planitzer SC, where he went through all the junior departments. The outbreak of World War II interrupted his career because he was drafted as a soldier. Only after the end of the war could he turn to football again and join the newly founded sports community (SG) Planitz. With her he became champion in West Saxony in 1948. After the Planitzers had qualified for the soccer east zone championship in 1948 , they reached the final and defeated the SG Freiimfelde Halle 1-0 with Erich Meichsner as the left midfielder . Until 1956 Meichsner played in the BSG activist "Karl Marx" Zwickau . Then, from 1957, he worked as a voluntary trainer for the BSG unit Reichenbach . Under his leadership, the team rose to the II. GDR League and intervened in the cup competitions (albeit with moderate success). His sporting career ended in 1961.
