Erich Rafael , called Der "Elch" (born February 8, 1928 in Eichensee in the Lyck district ( East Prussia ); † March 13, 2010 in Uetersen ) was a German soccer player who played in the Hamburg Oberliga and was part of the German team at the 1956 Summer Olympics .

Life

He was born in Eichensee in 1928 and spent his childhood there. After the outbreak of World War II , he was injured in the war and taken a hospital ship across the Baltic Sea to Denmark and from there to Uetersen. From 1945 onwards, Rafael played at TSV Uetersen as a center forward and was deployed as head of defense . With him the club celebrated the greatest successes in football and in 1950 became champion of the third-class Hamburg Germania relay and rose to the second highest division in Germany, the Hamburg amateur league, whose championship title was won in 1956/57. In 1956 Rafael was appointed to the German Olympic squad. Erich Rafael played for TSV Uetersen among others Aneby (Sweden) (1953), Hertha BSC (1956), with the rise of games in 1962 to the Oberliga Nord against SC Alstertal-Langenhorn , Heider SV and SV Arminia Hannover , before over 23,000 fans. 1963 against Hamburger SV . As a player in the league, Rafael was used in 688 games and scored 272 goals.

His trademark was a leather briefcase in which he carried his sports gear to training and games.

After his career as a player in the league he moved to the second men, then to the old men and finally to the seniors. With the senior team, Erich Rafael was relay champion from 1986 to 1990 and the Hamburg cup winner in 1990. In 1995 he was honored by the former senior league of HSV Hamburg with many former Bundesliga stars in Uetersen in honor of "50 years of footballer Erich Rafael". At the age of over 70 he still played in the senior senior team of TSV Uetersen.
