Erich Stecher (* 1960 in Mals ) is a South Tyrolean painter .

Life

Stecher was born in Mals, the second of four children. His parents worked a small farm, which his father bought in Mals after the damming of Lake Reschen . As a two-year-old, Stecher got his right hand into the tractor's V-belt. In the process he lost his right arm. He became the object of study for doctors, on which they wanted to study the processes in the brain, which now had to be reprogrammed from right-handed to left-handed. Erich could not become a medical celebrity, because this failed because of the lack of mobility of the family, which had to devote itself entirely to farming.

His talent for drawing was noticed in elementary school, and after secondary school, Stecher went to the art school in Val Gardena , which he successfully completed in 1980. After a short stay at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, Stecher moved to Florence to the Accademia delle belle Arti , where he completed his studies in 1985 under Goffredo Trovarelli . He found work as an art teacher in the Prad Middle School, from there he worked his way down geographically over the years, because the secondary schools in Laas, Schlanders and Latsch followed, then Lana and since 2012 the Adalbert Stifter Middle School in Gries / Bozen . Erich Stecher has been married to the high school teacher Ute Schweitzer since 1989 and with whom he has two children.

Act

In addition to his teaching activity, Erich Stecher increasingly began to turn to painting. He doesn't feel obliged to any style. After studying in Spain, Paris and Mexico, he paid particular attention to the prints by Francisco de Goya and the brushwork by Lovis Corinth . The colors of the South Tyrolean artist Hans Ebensberger have been attracting his attention for years.

His one-armed nature, the haze of the cattle sheds, the hard work on the slopes of the Mals fields and meadows, the structured agriculture and the intense light of the upper Vinschgau created an impression on Erich Stecher that dominated his artistic life.

Stecher is a member of the South Tyrolean Artists Association (fine arts).
