Erich Suchanek

Erich Suchanek (born October 18, 1914 in Riegersburg , † September 15, 1978 in Villach ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and federal railway official. He was a member of the Federal Council , a member of the National Council and Deputy Governor of Carinthia.

Suchanek attended four classes of a secondary school after elementary school and worked in his parents' agricultural lease. In 1936 he entered the service of the railway and subsequently became secretary of the railway workers' union. He represented the SPÖ between June 1, 1956 and March 17, 1958 in the Federal Council, and from June 2, 1956 to June 30, 1956 he held the office of Chairman of the Federal Council. He was then a member of the National Council from March 17, 1958 to April 12, 1965, after which he finally moved to the Carinthian provincial government. On April 12, 1965, Suchanek was sworn in as regional councilor of the Sima I state government and took over the office of 2nd Deputy Governor in the Sima II state government from March 20, 1970 to December 15, 1972 . In addition, he was chairman of the district management of the SPÖ Villach and chairman of the state executive of the ÖGB Carinthia.
