Erik Aurelius

Erik Aurelius ( the younger to distinguish himself from his grandfather of the same name; born May 9, 1946 in Lund ) is a Lutheran theologian and bishop emeritus of the Church of Sweden . From 2004 to 2012 was Bishop of the Diocese of Skara .

Aurelius studied Protestant theology after leaving school . In 1972 he was ordained and then worked as a pastor at the Vreta monastery church . After a long period of teaching at Lund University , where he was awarded a Dr. theol. After receiving his doctorate, he became the second pastor ( minister ) at Linköping Cathedral . From 1997 to 2004 Aurelius was professor for the Old Testament and university preacher at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . In 2004 he was elected bishop of the Diocese of Skara and introduced on August 29th. He also taught at Linköping University . After retiring in summer 2012, Aurelius moved to Lund, where his wife Eva Haettner Aurelius is professor of literature.

His work focuses on the narrative books of the Old Testament.

Aurelius' father Bengt Gustaf Aurelius was a pastor, his grandfather Erik Aurelius the Elder Bishop of Linköping. The retired Bishop Carl Axel Aurelius is the cousin of Aurelius.
