Carl Axel Aurelius

Carl Axel Aurelius (born September 25, 1948 in Finspång , Östergötland ) is a Swedish , Lutheran bishop .

Life

After finishing school, Aurelius studied Protestant theology at Lund University from 1967 to 1972 . Aurelius has been a Lutheran pastor in the Linköping diocese in the Church of Sweden since 1972 . Aurelius wrote several theological books in the years that followed. From 1972 to 1990 Aurelius worked as a theologian in the management of the international research group Theological Working Group for Research on Reformation History . In 1989 he became a professor of theology at Linköping University. In 1999 Aurelius was visiting professor at Luther Seminary in Saint Paul , Minnesota.

From 2003 to 2011 Aurelius was the bishop in the Diocese of Gothenburg . He was succeeded in autumn 2011 by Per Eckerdal . Carl Axel Aurelius is the cousin of the former Bishop of Skara Erik Aurelius .
