Erik Buxbaum

Erik Buxbaum (born August 31, 1943 in Heinersdorf , Friedland district ) is an Austrian police officer and former general director for public security in the Federal Ministry of the Interior and thus the highest-ranking official in the Austrian security administration .

Career

Buxbaum studied law at the University of Vienna and came on September 1, 1968 as a concept officer at the Federal Police Directorate Vienna , where he worked as a speaker in several district police stations. On February 14, 1972, he was assigned to the Federal Ministry of the Interior. From 1984 he headed what was then Department II / 13 (administrative police) and from 1990 the then Department II / 20 (policy department of the General Directorate). In 1991 he was appointed Deputy Director General for Public Security. From March 20, 1995, he was in charge of what was then Group II / A (Federal Police) in the Federal Ministry of the Interior. On January 1, 2000, he succeeded Michael Sika as General Director for Public Safety . He held this position until his retirement in December 2008, followed by Herbert Anderl .

Buxbaum is married and has two children.
