Herbert Anderl

Herbert Anderl (born March 27, 1951 in Vienna ) was Director General for Public Security in the Federal Ministry of the Interior and thus the highest-ranking official in the Austrian Security Administration .

Career

Anderl's father was a senior officer ( "Police Officer " ) in the service of the Vienna Federal Police Directorate from the 1950s to the 1970s . Anderl initially completed a commercial apprenticeship and also worked as a commercial clerk in industry, but passed the Matura in 1970 in the second educational path . He then began working at what was then the Central Statistical Office, today's Statistics Austria . From 1975 Anderl was a temporary officer in the armed forces and also completed his law studies during this time . After receiving his doctorate in law, he joined the BPD Vienna on September 1, 1981. He served in the police department in Liesing and Favoriten and in 1984 moved to the office of the Vienna Security Directorate , where he was promoted to deputy head.

On October 1, 1985, Anderl left the police for the time being and moved to the Court of Auditors , where he was responsible for the control of national defense from 1995 onwards. In January 2001 he was appointed to the Ministry of the Interior (BM.I) by the then Interior Minister Ernst Strasser , where he was entrusted with setting up the Security Academy (.SIAK), which is responsible for training police officers. On January 1, 2003, following a major reform of the BM.I central office, he became deputy section head and head of the personnel affairs, organization and administrative reform as well as budget and controlling departments. On January 1, 2009, he succeeded Erik Buxbaum as General Director for Public Safety. On May 5, 2011, Federal Minister Johanna Mikl-Leitner awarded Herbert Anderl the Great Gold Medal of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria . On January 1, 2013, Konrad Kogler succeeded him as the new General Director for Public Security, and Anderl was retired on December 17, 2012 by Interior Minister Mikl-Leitner. For the "Modern Police" project, Anderl returned to the Ministry of the Interior in January 2014 after a year of retirement as head of an advisory board that was supposed to take care of "the concerns of police officers and citizens".

Anderl is married and has two daughters.
