Erik Uddenberg (playwright)

Erik Emanuel Uddenberg (born June 25, 1963 in Lund ) is a Swedish playwright , screenplay writer and radio play and theater dramaturge .

Life

After training as a journalist , Uddenberg initially worked for Swedish radio . From 1994 to 1997 he trained as a dramatist in Stockholm and then took up a job as a freelance author, radio play and theater dramaturge at the Stockholm City Theater "Unga Klara".

In 2003 Uddenberg was awarded the ARD radio awardCivis - Europe's media award for integration ” for the radio play adaptation of Henning Mankell's time in the dark .

Uddenberg's theatrical work mainly includes works for children and youth theater . The play Polter, Geist, und Ti (Swedish premiere in 1998 in Stockholm, Theater Unga Klara) had its German premiere in 2002 and has since been performed on various German theaters. It shows the problematic relationship between a child and its mentally ill mother. The piece was based on motifs from a novel by Suzanne Osten . Even in pieces for adults ( Fader Mordet to German: patricide ) Uddenberg portrays always mentally unstable characters on the brink of madness .

In another children's play, The Letter from NN , problems of growing up and first experiences with love and sexuality are discussed. The piece China depicts the lives of two child soldiers in Uganda who are confronted with violence and death.

His works have been performed in various European countries (including Estonia ) and translated into several languages, including German, English, French, Romanian and various Nordic languages. Uddenberg also wrote several scripts, such as the script for the film Wellkåmm to Verona , written together with Suzanne Osten .
