Erik Viegen , (born July 20, 1978 in Malmedy ) is a Belgian endurance athlete in the disciplines of trail running , cross-country skiing , triathlon , duathlon and formerly biathlon .

In biathlon, he played the 2004/05 European Cup in the IBU Cup . He contested his first race in Geilo, Norway. He won his only point in the penultimate race.

The highlight of his biathlon career was his participation in the first summer biathlon European championships in 2004 in Clausthal-Zellerfeld . In the sprint he finished 18th, in the pursuit race 17th.

In 2006 Viegen started in Poland at the Lowlander Championships in cross-country skiing and was able to take third place in the skiathlon . He was able to achieve other good results at the Belgian national championships in cross-country skiing. In 2016 and 2017 he won the 10-kilometer races in the classic style and has been an A-squad athlete in the Belgian national team ever since.

In the summer, Viegen repeatedly took part in the Swiss multisport event Gigathlon . Here he reached eighth place in the “Single Man” category at the 7-Day Gigathlon in 2002 with a total time of 72 hours. In 2001 he competed in the Ironman in Roth . For PSV Bonn he started as a triathlete in the 2nd Bundesliga and made it to the 1st Bundesliga with the team.

Viegen studied at the Medical Faculty of the University of Liège . He is married to the equally successful athlete Tina Gartz. Since 2014 he has lived with his family in the Swiss Engadine , where he works as a physiotherapist and personal trainer.
