Erika Brinkmann (* 1952 in Bremen ) is a German elementary school teacher and literary didactician.

Erika Brinkmann was born in Bremen in 1952, where she has lived again since 2014. After internships in kindergarten she has - several times interrupted by the birth of her five daughters - in Freiburg , the High School on the second chance rescheduled and was there as well as at the University of Bremen trained as a teacher. Since 1987 she has founded and managed various learning workshops, such as the “ Büffelstübchen ” in Stuhr and Weyhe , the “ OASE ” and the “ Kindernetcafé ” at the University of Siegen (all together with Hans Brügelmann ) and the “ Scriptorium ” at the Klösterleschule in Schwäbisch Gmünd , where she worked with children who have particular difficulties learning to read and write. From 1992 to 1993, she taught a mixed-age class at a primary school in Lower Saxony, after which she worked as a research assistant in the primary level working group at the University of Siegen until 2001. She received her doctorate in 1997 at the University of Bremen and from 2002 to 2017 - after a year in advance as a visiting lecturer - she took on a professorship for German language and literature and its didactics at the Schwäbisch Gmünd University of Education . From 2004 to 2015 she was the dean of Faculty II there.

Activities and effects

Erika Brinkmann's research on written language acquisition was primarily influenced by her micro-analyzes of the development of spelling in preschool and elementary school children. As a literary didactician, she is one of the most prominent representatives of the language experience approach . She developed didactic materials for the four primary school years together with primary school teacher Nina Bode-Kirchhoff and others under the title "ABC Learning Landscape" and has published several editions since 2008. She is also co-editor of the “Rainbow Reading Box”, a collection of easy-to-read books for beginners that was also published by vpm-Verlag. In 2015 she published the anthology “Spelling in Discussion” for the primary school association , which gives an up-to-date overview of the state of research on the acquisition of spelling, alternative concepts for promoting it and concrete teaching aids. Since the beginning of the 1990s Erika Brinkmann has been committed to open teaching, which gives pupils opportunities for self-determination and co-determination in school and spaces for independent learning on the basis of children's rights . Erika Brinkmann is active in educational policy in the primary school association , in which she participates, among other things contributed to the development of the basic font concept. From 1992 to 1995 she was chairwoman of the Lower Saxony state group and she held the same office from 2010 to 2015 in Baden-Württemberg. In 2012 she was elected to the extended federal executive board and in 2014 as deputy federal chairman. In North Rhine-Westphalia as well as in Baden-Württemberg, Erika Brinkmann has worked in ministries' working groups on the development of educational plans and guidelines for German lessons in primary schools. From 1992 to 2003 she was a member of the advisory board of the “Grundschulzeitschrift” of Friedrich-Verlag, from 2004 to 2009 she was the founding editor of the magazine “Grundschule Deutsch” at the same publisher.
