The commemorative medal of the campaign in 1849 , or even Medaile the siege of Rome , is an award of the Papal States from the year 1849th

history

The meaning was the memory of the campaign in northern Italy and Romagna . With this medal Austrians , French and Neapolitans were honored as participants in the execution forces.

The founder was Pope Pius IX. in 1849. The awardees received a so-called certificate of ownership from the Cardinal Minister of War, in which the name of the recipient, the name of the regiment and the information on wearing and the year of foundation were noted.

The front of the medal shows the crossed keys and the tiara , which are surrounded by a laurel wreath . The surrounding inscription reads SEDES APOSTOLICA ROMANA . The inscription on the reverse is PIVS IX PONT. MAX. ROMAE RESTITVTVS CATHOLICIS ARMIS COLLATIS AN. MDCCCXLIX .

The medal was minted in gold , silver and bronze .

The ribbon is yellow with white borders and takes up the papal colors.
