Eriosyce limariensis is a species of plant in the genus Eriosyce from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet was named after the site in the valley of the Rio Limari in the Limari province in Chile.

description

Eriosyce limariensis grows individually with spherical gray-green shoots and reaches a diameter of 5 to 15 centimeters. The roots are fibrous, sometimes forming a large taproot . There are 13 to 20 ribs that are notched. The awl, slightly upwardly curved thorns are brown and have a darker point. The one to four, sometimes crossed central spines are 2 to 4.5 centimeters long. The six to ten radial spines, stretched out slightly sideways, are 1.5 to 4 centimeters long, with the uppermost of them being the longest.

The funnel-shaped, sulfur-yellow flowers have a somewhat purple central stripe. They are 3.5 to 5.5 inches long and have the same diameter. Your pericarpel is covered with short wool. The egg-shaped, reddish fruits are thick-walled, fleshy and hollow. They are up to 2.7 inches long and open with a basal pore.

Distribution and systematics

Eriosyce limariensis is widespread in the Chilean region of Coquimbo in the coastal cordillera and foothills of the Andes . It was first described as Pyrrhocactus limariensis in 1980 by Friedrich Ritter . Fred Kattermann placed them in the genus Eriosyce in 1994 .
