Eriosyce napina is a species of plant in the genus Eriosyce from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet napina means '(Latin napinus) beet-like'.
description
Eriosyce napina grows individually with depressed spherical to slightly elongated dark green to green-brown shoots and reaches a diameter of 2 to 4 centimeters. The parting is bare or somewhat woolly. The root is a large, bulbous taproot that is separated from the shoot with a narrow neck. The ribs are divided into low humps. The areoles on it are somewhat sunken. There are few to numerous horn-colored to black thorns that lie against the shoot surface or radiate somewhat. They are 2 to 5 millimeters long. A single thorn is a little more central.
The funnel-shaped flowers are light yellow to sometimes light reddish and appear from young areoles. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are covered with whitish wool and bristles. The elongated fruits open with a basal pore.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Eriosyce napina is widespread on alluvial deposits in the south of the Atacama region of Chile in the valley of the Rio Huasco between Vallenar and Huasco . It was first described as Echinocactus napinus in 1872 by Rudolph Amandus Philippi . Fred Kattermann placed them in the genus Eriosyce in 1994 .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Vulnerable (VU) ", d. H. listed as endangered.
