Declaration of 46

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Declaration of 46 was a secret letter sent by 46 leading Soviet Communists to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Russia on October 15, 1923 . It followed a letter from Leon Trotsky dated October 8 of the same year and is considered to be one of the first documents of the left opposition .

Like Trotsky's letter, this declaration also expressed protest against the current politics of the leadership around Josef Stalin and the state of affairs in the party and state. There is a close connection between the economic crisis and internal undesirable developments. "In the face of a party leadership distorted by such narrow-minded manipulations, the party ceases to be that lively collective, rich in initiative ..." At their meetings, the secretaries are already "afraid" that the "free discussion" is " in fact disappeared ".

Trotsky's signature is missing from the declaration, but apart from the great agreement in terms of time and content of the two texts, the declaration was also signed by Trotsky's closest collaborators, such as J. Preobrazhensky and G. Pyatakov . The signatories also included L. Serebrjakow , A. Beloborodow , W. Antonow-Ovsejenko , I. Smirnow , W. Obolensky , N. Muralow , L. Sosnowski , A. Bubnow , A. Voronsky , J. Bosch , J. Drobnis , W. Jakowlewa , as well as the supporters of the group Democratic Centralists T. Sapronow , Rafail B. Farbman , W. Smirnow and M. Boguslawski .

Most of those who signed the Declaration fell victim to the Great Terror in the late 1930s .
