Church of the Redeemer (Friedrichshafen)
The Erlöserkirche , a listed building, is a Protestant church and is located at Lilienstraße 15/2 in the Löwental settlement , near the Friedrichshafen city airport .
history
The continuing population growth in the north of Friedrichshafen in the post-war period made it necessary to build another new parish center. Therefore, an area of the castle church was separated and on April 8, 1957, construction of the Erlöserkirche began. The plans for this building project were made by Wilhelm Tiedje , who had already made a name for himself in Friedrichshafen in 1952 as the architect of the Friedrichshafen town hall. The topping-out ceremony was celebrated on August 29, 1957. The church was inaugurated on June 1, 1958 by the then Ulm prelate Erich Eichele .
Church building and equipment
The west-facing, almost square church is a hall church with a flat ceiling with an extension on the south side. The interior, which can hold around 450 people, is clearly divided into five levels. Due to its proximity to the airport taxiway, the tower could only be built relatively low. For this he received distinctive dials for the tower clock on the east and west sides.
The equipment is very simple according to the taste of the times. The twelve artistically designed glass windows come into their own as a contrast. They show motifs from the church year . The ribbon of windows in the main portal symbolizes the creed . The striking iron cross on the west wall refers to the reference to the industrial city of Friedrichshafen.
Bells
Four bells hang in the lower tower. They were cast on January 16, 1959 by the Kurtz bell foundry in Stuttgart and were put into operation on March 1, 1959 after the blessing of the bell. In terms of motif, they let the beginning of the song Christ is risen from the torture ring out.
