Ermengol VII of Valencia ( Catalan Ermengol el de València ; † August 11, 1184 in Requena ) was a Count of Urgell from the House of Barcelona . He was a son of Count Ermengol VI. von Urgell († 1154) and the Arsenda de Cabrera ( House Cabrera ).

Like his father, Ermengol VII spent most of his life in the Kingdom of León-Castile. From 1167 he continuously belonged to the retinue of King Ferdinand II of León , who had appointed him his maiordomus . Furthermore, he had been awarded the rule of Extremadura and Alcántara , in whose conquest he was involved. In 1184 Ermengol led a campaign with his half-brother Galcéron de Sales in the Moorish Taifa kingdom of Valencia . In Requena ( Comarca Plana d'Utiel ) they were defeated and killed. Ermengol was buried in the Abbey of Santa María de Bellpuig near Avellanas, which he founded with his wife in 1166. His descendant, Ermengol X. , had a tomb designed for him that was bought by John D. Rockefeller Jr. in 1928 and bequeathed to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City , where it can be seen today in the The Cloisters branch .

He was married to Dolça von Foix († 1209), daughter of Count Roger III. from Foix . Your children were:

  • Ermengol VIII († October 16, 1209), Count of Urgell.
  • Marquesa; ∞ with Ponç III. de Cabrera , Vice Count of Cabrera and Àger.
  • Miraglia; ∞ with Count Gómez González de Traba.
