Erminio Dones (born April 14, 1887 in Venice , † April 25, 1945 ) was an Italian rower . The Olympic runner-up in 1920 won two gold, two silver and three bronze medals at European championships.

Athletic career

Dones won his first international medal at the 1905 European Championships when he finished third with the Italian eighth . Two years later he rowed two medals at the European Championships in 1907 . In the one he finished third behind the French Gaston Delaplane and the Belgian Joseph Hermans . In the double scull he won together with Emilio Sacchini ahead of the Belgians Daniel Clarembaux and Joseph Hermans. In 1908 Hermans won together with Xavier Crombet , followed by Dones and Sacchini in second place. Four years later, Dones won the double scull title at the 1912 European Championships together with Pietro Annoni .

At the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp, five boats competed in double sculls. Dones and Annoni defeated the Belgian boat in advance. In the final, won Paul Costello and Jack Kelly sr. from the United States ten seconds ahead of the Italians, who in turn had two seconds ahead of the French Gaston Giran and Alfred Plé .

At the European Championships in 1922 Dones and his new partner Lorenzo Salvini took second place behind the boat from Switzerland, in 1923 Dones and Salvini took third place.
