Ernő Hetényi

Ernő Hetényi (born February 13, 1912 in Budapest ; † September 17, 1999 there ) was a Hungarian author and Buddhologist . He founded the Eastern European branch of the Arya Maitreya Mandala , which he directed for decades.

Live and act

Hetényi's father was the Hungarian operetta composer Albert Hetényi Heidelberg (1875–1951).

After Hetényi received his initiation into the Arya Maitreya Mandala on March 29, 1953, Lama Anagarika Govinda appointed him head of his order for Eastern Europe. In 1956 he founded the order's first European academic seminar in Budapest, the Alexander Csoma de Körös Institute for Buddhology (Kőrösi Csoma Sándor Buddhológiai Intézet), for which Stephan Pálos and the German cultural scientist Günther Däss worked. Later the Vietnamese "Bồ-Tát-Csoma-Instituto por Budhologio" in Vũng Tau under the direction of Rudolf Petri was attached to the institute. Hetényi was in close contact with Buddhist scholars in Mongolia and visited Ulan Bator .

Hetényi's works cover a wide range of Buddhist topics. He has also emerged as a chronicler of Buddhism research and Buddhism in Hungary. In particular, he made a name for himself for researching the life and work of Sándor Csoma . He also wrote numerous writings on the development of Buddhism and Buddhism research in Hungary.

In February 2012, on the 100th birthday, his order Arya Maitreya Mandala commemorated Hetényis as a pioneer worldwide.
