Ernest Hauger SMA (born October 5, 1873 in Kingersheim , † October 12, 1948 ) was a French Roman Catholic missionary and bishop .

Life

Hauger joined in 1887 the Society of African Missions at, studied from 1892 at the seminary of Lyon and received on 5 July 1896, the priestly ordination . In 1898 he went to what is today Nigeria as a missionary . After he nearly died in 1900, Hauger first returned to Europe. In 1911 he was sent again to Lagos, where he became one of the closest collaborators of the Vicar Apostolic Ferdinand Terrien there .

Pope Pius XI appointed him on February 13, 1925 Vicar Apostolic of Gold Coast and three days later Titular Bishop of Clazomenae . The episcopal ordination donated him on May 24, 1925 François Steinmetz , Apostolic Vicar of Dahomey . Co -consecrators were Marie-Joseph Cuaz , Vicar Apostolic of Laos , and Ferdinand Terrien, Vicar Apostolic of Lagos. On November 14, 1932, Hauger resigned and retired.
