The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cape Coast ( Latin Archidioecesis A Litore Aureo ) is in Ghana situated Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Cape Coast . It covers part of the Central Region .
history
Pope Leo XIII. founded the Apostolic Prefecture Gold Coast on February 2, 1879 from cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate of Two Guinea . On May 25, 1901, it was raised to the rank of Apostolic Vicariate .
With the bull Laeto accepimus on April 18, 1950, it was raised to the rank of metropolitan archbishopric.
It lost parts of its territory in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:
- June 28, 1895 to the Apostolic Prefecture of Ivory Coast ;
- March 15, 1923 to the Apostolic Vicariate of Lower Volta ;
- February 2, 1932 to the Apostolic Vicariate of Kumasi ;
- December 2, 1943 to the Apostolic Prefecture of Accra ;
- November 20, 1969 to the Sekondi-Takoradi diocese. 8
