The Erzbistum Accra ( latin Archidioecesis Accraënsis ) is an in Ghana preferred Roman Catholic diocese based in Accra . It includes the region Greater Accra Region .
history
Pope Pius XII founded the Apostolic Prefecture of Accra on December 2, 1943 from cessions of territory from the Vicariate Apostolic Gold Coast . With the Apostolic Constitution Si evangelicos fructus she was elevated to the Apostolic Vicariate on June 12, 1947 .
With the bull Laeto accepimus it was raised to the rank of diocese on April 18, 1950 and it was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Cape Coast as a suffragan diocese. With the bull Quae maiori , the diocese was raised to the rank of metropolitan archbishopric on July 6, 1992 by Pope John Paul II . On the same day it lost part of its territory in favor of the establishment of the diocese of Koforidua .
