The Erzbistum Madang ( lat. : Archidioecesis Madangana ) is in Papua New Guinea preferred Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Madang .

history

Pope Leo XIII. founded the Apostolic Prefecture Kaiser-Wilhelms-Land on February 24, 1896 from the cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate Neupommern . On July 25, 1913, Pope Pius X divided it into the Apostolic Prefectures of Eastern Kaiser-Wilhelms-Land and Western Kaiser-Wilhelms-Land .

On November 23, 1922, she was raised to the Apostolic Vicariate with the Apostolic Constitution Incumbentis Nobis and took the name, Apostolic Vicariate Eastern New Guinea . It took the name, Apostolic Vicariate Alexishafen, on May 15, 1952. The vicariate gave up on June 18, 1959 parts of its territory in favor of the establishment of the three Apostolic Vicariates Mount Hagen , Lae and Goroka . It was raised to the rank of metropolitan archbishopric with the bull Laeta incrementa on November 15, 1966 and took its current name.
