The Bistum Bereina ( lat. : Dioecesis Bereinitana ) is in Papua New Guinea preferred Roman Catholic diocese based in Bereina . It includes the districts Kairuku-Hiri and Goilala in the province of Central Province .

history

Pope John XXIII founded with the Apostolic Constitution Qui per electionem on July 16, 1959 the Apostolic Vicariate Yule Island from cessions of territory of the Apostolic Vicariate Port Moresby .

With the bull Laeta incrementa it was raised on November 15, 1966 to the diocese, which was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Port Moresby as a suffragan diocese. On January 16, 1971, it lost part of its territory in favor of the establishment of the Kerema diocese .
