Gérard-Joseph Deschamps

Gérard-Joseph Deschamps SMM (born July 4, 1928 in Eastview ) is a Canadian religious and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Bereina .

Life

Gérard-Joseph Deschamps joined the Congregation of Montfortains at and received on 13 March 1954, the priestly ordination .

John XXIII appointed him on October 17, 1961 as Apostolic Prefect of Daru. Paul VI elevated the Apostolic Prefecture to a diocese on November 15, 1966, and Deschamps became the first bishop of Daru. The Apostolic Delegate in Canada, Archbishop Sergio Pignedoli , consecrated him bishop on January 21 of the next year; Co - consecrators were Gérard-Marie Coderre , Bishop of Saint-Jean-de-Québec , and René Audet , Auxiliary Bishop in Ottawa .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Bereina on January 2, 1999. He resigned from his office on February 12, 2002.
