Rochus Tatamai MSC (born September 24, 1962 in Raduna, Rabaul ) is a Papua New Guinean Roman Catholic religious and appointed Archbishop of Rabaul . He is a great-nephew of the beatified Peter To Rot (1912–1945).

Life

Tatamai attended the Minor Seminary in Ulapia (1978–1981) and then entered the novitiate of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Vunapau. He made his temporary vows on February 2, 1983.

He was then sent to Bosmana, where he continued his studies in philosophy and theology. He made perpetual vows on February 2, 1989, and was ordained a priest in Vunapope on November 26 of the same year . After ordination , he attended counseling courses in Australia and Religious Television Association courses in Ireland and France.

He was then parish vicar and deputy administrator in various parishes (1990–1993), appointments officer of the MSC (1990–1997), secretary of the religious province (1992–1995) and assistant to the head of the post-noviciate (1995–1996).

He studied communication science at the Kairos Communication Institute in Maynooth , Ireland (1997-1998) and then became Vice Provincial (1998-1999) and Head of the Provincial Council (1999). He was an associate of the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) and the Religious Television Association (RTA-EMTV) as Secretary and Head of the Catholic Division (1998) and Vice Chairman of the World Association for Christian Communications (WACC-PAC) for the Pacific based in Donga (2000-2002).

Since 2003 he has been a member of the international community and chaplain of the Sacre Coeur Basilica at the founding site of the MSC congregation in Issoudun , France.

On July 8, 2005, he was in the Auxiliary Bishop Archdiocese of Port Moresby belonging suffragan Kerema and the titular bishop of Accia appointed and received on 29 September 2005 by the Archbishop of Rabaul, Karl Hesse MSC, the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were Paul John Marx , Bishop of Kerema, and Ambrose Kiapseni , Bishop of Kavieng .

On November 29, 2007 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . as Bishop of Bereina in Papua New Guinea. Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Kavieng on June 22, 2018. The inauguration took place on August 15 of the same year.

Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Rabaul on June 19, 2020.
